Trucker hats were originally considered “gimme hats” by seed companies, as a way to promote their products to farmers and truck drivers. The hats were a useful tool for them, but also promoted the particular seed company. Hartke Farms used Dekalb and G Funk Hybrid seeds. My dad worked at J.S. Schultz seed company in high school. Seed company hats and metal signs were around the farm and a few are still in our possession.
As a way to pay homage to the early days of the trucker hat, here are a few original Melvin Roy seed designs.
